Katrina,
Ways we can Help
September
2, 2005
Good Morning Leadership,
Several of out members has expressed
an interest in making some type of effort on the Katrina Disaster.
I contacted Paulette West, Mission Coordination of VIM of our
North Alabama Conf. This is the organization we work thru going
to Honduras. She had 2 separate ways we could participate and
I thought I would pass them on to you. If you would in tern pass
them to your team members, it would give them an opportunity to
participate if they want to.
1. Local churches in the devastated
area of south Ala, Miss, and Lau. have expressed a need for basic
first aid supplies. They would need to sent to Paulette West,
pwest@northalabamaumc.org or [phone 205- 226-7962. The sooner
the better. ex: band aids, antibiotic cream, tape, gauze, ace
bandages, sun screen, bug spray, bottle water, infant formula
(pre mixed or dry), diapers, Gatorade
scissors,
2. The second way to participate
is more involved. To take a team down into the devastated area
requires a certification process. It takes two hours of training
and the training does NOT require commitment to go. The training
would put you in a category that will allow you to go if you want
to and the need arrives. Paulette West will put on the training
at Christ United Methodist Church at 5:30 Tuesday, Sept 6. It
will last 2 hours. After completing this 2 hour course, you will
be certified. If the need arrives and we so desire, we can then
put together a team to go to Katrina area. Although this sounds
involved, it is really very simple. Just show up next Tuesday
at Christ Church at 5:30 and you then have options opened up.
Please pass this on to your team
members.
Vaya con Dios,
Tom Camp, M.D.
p.s. . I know some of you are out of this
area and cannot participate in the training, but you get the information
anyway.
