Sister Mission in the Carolina Report on Honduras Foundation
This has been a good year for Carolina Honduras Health Foundation. We are still seeking a Honduran doctor to staff the Limon Clinic full time. We are in the process of adding room in the Educational Building that would provide living quarters. Other construction includes adding a room for the night watchman. Plans are to add new tile over the entire building, starting on the first floor. Two new air conditioners and nine ceiling fans have been installed.

Financially, we have had a good year with contributions remaining good. As expected, expenses have increased. We purchased a Nissen van for transporting teams. This gives us a total of four vehicles.

Gail Richardson, who coordinates the school program reports that 25 children were sponsored this year and she has funds for about 20 children for the 2006 school year. Contributions for this program should be made to Barnwell United Methodist Church and marked "Limon School". They can be sent to Carolina Honduras Health Foundation or to Barnwell United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 126, Barnwell, SC 29812.

Eighteen teams have worked at Carolina Health Clinic this year with another scheduled for November. The first team in February was from Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant, SC. They delivered the first baby born at the Clinic. Her name is Carolina. They were followed by a team from Centenary United Methodist Church, Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Tom Cannon led this team and another in April. Dr. Gibson led teams in March and September. Dr. Wayne Hale of Family Medicine Residency Program, Greensboro, NC led a team of 20 that included 8 nursing students, 2 nurse practioner students and a family medicine resident. Dr. John Parler and Rev. Jerry Brunson led teams in April and September. Another first, Dr. Parler did a root canal for a little girl from Ecoteos. The September team included construction workers who reroofed the Townes Building. These teams are from the Batesburg and Saluda, SC areaa. A third team in April was sponsored by Volunteers in Medical Missions, Seneca, SC.

Four teams from Alabama, (Jasper (2), Columbiana and Weaver) were at the Clinic in May and June. A team from the Spartanburg area also worked in June, led by Dr. Fran McCarley. A first time team of 15 from Cumberland County Medical Society, led by Dr. Joseph Pion of Carlisle, PA worked a week in July and are scheduled to return in 2006.

In August a team from Pine Bluff United Methodist Church, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, diagnosed a patient with cancer. They arranged for an oncology evaluaton. She had surgery on Oct. 7 and is at home in Limon. A fifth Alabama team led by Mrs. Jane Cox with Dr. Tom Camp worked at the Clinic in October. While there Dr. Camp and other physicians led an educational seminar for a group of newly trained Honduran doctors.

In November PINCC (Prevention International: No Cervical Cancer) will work in three places near Limon. They will distribute educational materials to women community leaders and nurses and do Pap smears. Patients requiring cryotherapy would be treated and women with more serious cervical problems would be taken to Carolina Health Clinic for treatment. One of the places they will be working is a new facility at Ciriboya, about 35 miles from Limon, being built by a California group who has been to Limon for the past four years with Alabama teams. We expect to work closely with them.

Eighteen teams have scheduled for 2006. A number of first time volunteers will be joining existing teams. In 2006 we would hope to complete the construction and maintenance projects and have full time medical coverage at the Clinic. The full time physician would work with the volunteer teams.

A contribution card is enclosed for any contribution you wish to make. The Foundation appreciates your contributions and could not provide the medical and dental care without your help.
