International Relationships or Medical Missions?
In November '06 six teams (called Medical Brigades) converged
on the sleepy coastal Garrifina Village of Tocomachu, Honduras.
The teams consisted of AHMEN - medical and eye program, CHIMES -
support and construction, Cuban trained doctors who are stationed
there for 2 years, Cuban trained Honduran doctors taking their rotation
in the area, Birthing Project - exchanging
ideas and training local midwives, and PINCC - treating cervical
cancer.
The long week was a great success both in terms of the support to
the local
communities and the working relationship being developed between
all the
groups. This idea of mixing these teams was the natural growth of
the teams
working in the same area over the last couple of years and becoming
friends
by association.
