VIM Mission
VIM Mission
United Methodist Volunteer in Mission (UMVIM) enables individuals, local churches, districts, and the annual conference to be directly involved in missions by sending short-term volunteers and financial support to projects at specific locations in a mission area from which an invitation has been received. The purpose of UMVIM teams is to share faith in Jesus Christ through the use of individual skills and gifts as God’s ambassadors to the world, sharing God’s ministry of reconciliation

Ministry Areas

Medical • There are many opportunities for doctors, nurses, and dentists. Providing physical care for those who in need.

Construction • There are many needs for new construction and reconstruction. Skilled volunteers and persons who are willing to be laborers and helpers are needed.

Evangelism and Nurture • Services of worship with preaching, singing, and personal testimonies (through an interpreter usually), Bible Schools, visitation and youth programs may be part of a short-term mission.

HIV/AIDS: The scourge of HIV/AIDS amongst children is being addressed in Zimbabwe; mission work in this area includes providing prevention measures through developing a curriculum for schools to help teachers equip children to live healthy and safe lives. Mobilizing and equipping voluntary care workers to befriend, counsel, pray with and prepare families who live with HIV/AIDS for the future. Providing support to the growing number of orphans who are either having to provide for themselves and younger siblings or who are being looked after by aging grandparents.

Our 2007 Mission
Construction

We will help with construction and maintenance of a new church buildings and parsonages. In most cases, churches become not only a focal point in a community but the center of the community where people can worship, be educated, and be nurtured spiritually.
Vacation Bible School

We will minister to hundreds of children through games, crafts, and Bible teaching at our daily Vacation Bible School.

Eye Care

In Zimbabwe, children suffer from blindness due to malnutrition and thousands of people have preventable eye diseases. Our eye care program will at providing provide the local people with the vision care, eyeglasses and sunglasses for the people.

Home and Orphanage Visitation

We will visit and minister to the children at the United Methodist Orphanage in Old Mutare, Zimbabwe. We will also help the local missionary in her efforts to provide care for the orphans in neighboring towns.

Revival

Worship and the preaching of the Good News of Jesus Christ are central to the church in Zimbabwe. Many of our team members will have the opportunity to use their musical gifts and testimonies at revivals and weekly worship services. We will minister to thousands as they gather to here the Word of God.

Medical

Our mission team will also provide some basic medical care. Many people go for years with medical complications because doctors and hospitals are so expensive. We will bridge a gap between the people of Zimbabwe and the church.


Who May Participate

Anyone who has committed his/her life to Christ, is in good standing in his/her local church, and is willing to use his/her skills, talents, time, and financial resources to share “the whole gospel with the whole

Person.”
Member Expenses

The cost of the mission to Zimbabwe is approx. $2,600. This includes transportation, lodging, and most meals.
