Kids Disappear in Honduras, Be part of the Solution
May 24, 2008
Two hundred twenty seven kids have disappeared in Honduras in the past year according to the headlines of “La Prensa”, the La Ceiba newspaper.  The majority are girls and most of them are for sexual exploitation.   Both Sister Eleanor and House Mother  Suyappa confirm that most of the girls at the dorm could have been in these 227 kids.
Brent and Doris Brady, AHMEN warehouse supervisors from Utila, have spent more time with the girls than other members of the AHMEN organization.  The girls and Suppa tend to “open up” to Doris and tells stories that we, as Americans, find horrific.
People in the states ask: Why do the girl’s parents not prevent this?  If the parents stay home, the kids are o.k, but if they don’t work, the kids don’t eat.
Why don’t’ the police stop it?  They are trying with a special team, but the country is large and the police are few. Brent and Doris are doing their part.  They have become a “Friend of the Girl’s Dorm”, have one of the girls that they have taken a particular interest in, take some of the girls to lunch for an outing now and then.  They report this to be a very personal and rewarding way to be part of a solution to very real problem.

CHIMES Update
Dr. Luther Castillo, Medical Director of the Ciriboya Clinic, has returned after a successful speaking engagement to the European Parliament.  He is joining Bud McKinney and Jesus Cacho, both seasoned CHIMES road managers, in a team headed up by Dr. Jon Ranson, his wife Carroll, and dentist Dr. Poco Loco.  Once again, they will be pushing the envelope by opening new territory.  Both Cuban and Honduran medical personnel from the Ciriboya Clinic will join them.  They plan to hold clinics in Ciriboya, Tocomachu, and Pueblo Neuvo.  Then it gets really interesting.  They take boats from Pueblo Neuvo to Bavrna Stur, then on to Plapayay, Ybanz, and then explore other barrier islands.
On another front, the upstairs of the Ciriboya Clinic is being modified to add rooms for a lab, sonar room, x-ray, dental lab, and more examining rooms.  As with all projects, money is needed to help with the modifications.  If you find a loose coin or two, what better way to spend it than contacting:
Bill Camp, 916-612-9999.
