Christ UMC, Jasper‘s July ’08 team
This team was made up of 12 people. The team worked with the local doctor and his intern during the morning. We help clinic both on the large island and some neighboring keys. We worked with the local doctors, rather than on our own. WE have found this much more beneficial over the long team.
In addition, in the afternoons, we were invited to the local schools and did educational power point presentations followed by open discussions in small groups. We covered such topics as AIDS, pregnancy prevention, how to have a healthy pregnancy, how to raise a healthy child, and personal hygiene. The presentations were made by both the medical personnel and the youth of our team.
We also made contact with the Methodist Pastor on the Island.
We have been asked to return next year and spend more time with the educational aspect, teaching both the students and the teachers. In addition, they have several school construction projects needed and would like to have a joint evangelism program with the local pastors.
