Cindy's
Story
My
name in Cindy Dulaney. I am from Jasper, Alabama ; more specifically
Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. My husband,
Joel, and I traveled to Honduras in May of this year with
the AHMEN team. This was Joel’s
second trip (he went last spring), however, it was my first. Upon
returning from his trip last year, Joel shared his experiences
of Honduras with me and as intrigued and moved as I was ,
without having actually been there, I truly couldn’t
relate with the plight on these precious people. It
was then that we decided that if it be God’s will that
we would go together, never really considering that it would
happen as soon as the following spring. There were many obstacles
standing in our way to making the final decision to go on
this trip, but one by one, God removed each and every one
out of the way. There was nothing left
to do but go.
We
were on the evangelism team. There were
four of us in all. Steve Britt, our church’s
music minister and Renee Cole, who is from Alabama also,
were on the team. Both Steve and Renee
have experience in the mission field. Our primary focus was
children, realizing of course that at any time there could
be a need to witness to adults as well. Honestly, there wasn’t
time enough to reach all the children in the areas in which
we traveled. We shared the gospel with
approximately 850 children. Another team
could have easily shared with that many children if not more. I
hear so many people say they will go into the mission field
when their children are older. Their fear
is that their children will be Motherless or Fatherless at
a young age if something happens to them. Something
can happen on their way to work or to Walmart. I
believe that there is a window of opportunity in the mission
field that will soon be gone and this opportunity should
be seized.
There
is one more really neat story I would like to share. Our
first morning in Limon, which is where we stayed at night,
our breakfast was interrupted by a lady who was in charge
of an orphanage there in Limon. She was
very concerned for a child under her care and was asking
for medical or financial assistance. The
medical team and evangelism team went to the orphanage and
found 51 children being cared for by
this one lady under some very sad conditions. They were so
precious and seemed so happy to see us. During
our stay we went back to the orphanage on three different
occasions. Each of us bonded with particular
children. We have information about the
director so we can check on the orphanage from home.
Anyone
remotely thinking about going into the mission field anywhere,
I would strongly encourage you to seek God. We
have not been called to do what comes natural to us but to
do what come supernatural. I was so worried
about how unworthy I am to go,I forgot how worthy my God
is to equip me or anyone for that matter.
