Cornflake Update: May 2008
Edwin has moved to Mario, and Mario’s wife Sandra’s, home. He is now 12 years old and in the 5th grade. Why did he move? Sister Eleanor’s job has continued to grow and she is on the road a lot. Edwin is reaching teenage years with all to the implications. Mario and his wife agreed to have him live with them and their family of two sons and one daughter.
One problem: how to finance his move, his schooling, his food, his books, his tuition, his lunch money, his transportation to school, etc.
Solution: Enter Bill Bryant from Quinton, Al as a “patrionado”.

If you want information on the joys, and tribulations of sponsorship contact Bill at: wbryant436@aol.com.
Has it changed Edwin? Here is the report from the May ’08 team’s interviews.
Edwin has become quite an impressive young man.
He has written Bill one letter expressing his gratitude for the sponsorship. He refers to Bill as his “Abuelo” (grandfather).
Hermanda Sandra reports he is making better, not perfect, grades – but better.
His favorite sport is soccer, which he plays in the afternoon with his “new brothers”.
His favorite T.V. Shows are the cartoon channel.
He attends church on Tuesday nights, Wed. nights, and Sunday nights.
He attends Sunday school on Sunday mornings and is quite active in the youth program.
His new “adopted parents” have started a new Cruzado church and he is very active in that. It has grown from zero to 25 members in the past 3 mos., with a significant number of these being kids.
He does his fair share of the housekeeping and is responsible for washing his own clothes.
He spends some of his Saturdays back at the mission compound, hanging out with his old friends and Sister Eleanor.
Suyappa (dorm mom for Shalome – the girl’s name for the Girl’s dorm) and Patti (interpreter from La Ceiba and mother of 5 boys) report the following:
He is polite
Has matured
Is no longer the “little prince” and acts appropriately
Is courteous and shows polite manners to girls and older women.
Is showing a totally different since of responsibility. They both feel like he level of maturity and responsibility has improved dramatically and for the better.
Thanks to Sister Eleanor’s wise decision, Mario and Sandra’s willingness to accept this new responsibility, and Bill’s patronage, and Edwin’s hard work, Edwin is growing into a fine young man.
