Utila Report from a member of Bucket’s Team.
Fantabulous – a new word created since none I know can describe the trip to Utila. It means “A God Thing.”*The Memorial Service for Larry Pitts was a tremendous blessing to the local people of Utila who attended the service – and to every member of the team. Renea, Larry’s daughter, was a part of the team and a real blessing to us all. She had more “God moments” all during the week than can be mentioned here. Her Dad’s presence was very real among us as we picked up His passion and ministered to the people of Utila. His spirit rests in the waters around the dock at Rubi’s Inn. His friend, Bucket stayed in the room where Larry went to met Jesus. A dream hasn’t ended – it has actually only begun. Thank you Larry Pitts for helping pave the way. It’s a God Thing!
*People were ministered to medically and spiritually. God used someone, sometime, to open the minds of three individuals who saw their need for a Savior. On Wednesday night in devotion I shared my desire to pray with “just one” to receive Jesus as their personal Savior on the trip. The very next day – before lunch – I was able to pray with not just one, not two – but three different people who were ripe and ready to become a Christian. Lexie, Gail and Patricia on the Cays Island were saved that morning thanks to some who came before us and planted a seed, then someone else watered that seed, - their efforts were realized that morning as we prayed together. God gives the increase! It’s a God Thing!
*The Honduran people became real, with faces, names and needs. Some of them were Juan Carlos – 2 years old who lives in the dump area at LaCeiba. He stole all our hearts! Michelle, a worker at the restaurant where we ate, she needs our prayers. Alexandrea and her mother who lives in the swamp area (Campernoda )on Utila – beautiful people. Amanda of LaLoma who has a great desire to know more about the Scripture. Melvin, Maria and Vernando – A mother, father and young child who were eager to accept the Bible and pray with us. Janet and The congregation at the Methodist Church in Utila – we participated in a walk down the middle of town with the children in a Sunday School celebration. They carried banners and flags that said things like “we love Jesus.” They sang and had a great time – we did also! The Cross carrying through town yielded many opportunities to witness to people. Precious - who showed up and helped out. Sally who is a great “tool” in God’s toolbox. Fabbie – who played in the yard and made us smile. She and her mother were neighbors to Larry Pitts while he was at Rubi’s Inn. Heather – We met Heather on the boat from LaCeiba to Utila. She visited the clinic with a great physical need. She was touched by the compassion of the medical team.
*A special thanks to Marlene, Florence, Donna, Brent, Doris, Patrick, Nelly, Rosa, Tony, the Guffys and Sis. Eleanor for all your support and help!
So, what actually happens on a Mission Experience? Perhaps the greatest thing is what happens to the Missionary. “It’s a God Thing!”
