Limon, Colon, September 21, 2008

Dear Sirs:
It is my hope that when you receive this letter you are enjoying rich blessings.
My name is Jessie Stephanie Galeas Thompson. I am 22 years old, Honduran and single. I live in the community of Limon, in the Department of Colon. I am an elementary school teacher. I studied in Trujillo for 3 years thanks to the sacrifice of my mother who was able to provide for my education, since I don’t have a father. I have not been able to find work as an elementary teacher because it is very difficult to find a position in that field in this community.
I love to teach children and young people and my dream is to be a chemistry teacher and teach in high school where there are more positions open. I am at the moment studying at the National University for Education in the city of La Ceiba to become a teacher in Natural Sciences. To help myself a bit, because my mother cannot give me all the money that I need, I have been working at the Carolina Clinic in Limon as interpreter for two years (I had the opportunity to learn English and thanks to that I can work). But because I don’t work all the time, only when the medical brigades come, there are many weeks that I don’t earn any money.
It’s very difficult for me to study without enough resources to do so. I have to buy books that are too expensive for me, pay for transportation back and forth to La Ceiba and pay for lodging in La Ceiba when I have to go to class. Sometimes I can stay at a friend’s house, but not all the time. I’ve been doing this for two years and I still have three more to go and every day seems more difficult because of the rise in the cost of living.
My desire to study is great and I desire to be a great professional. I am the type of person that is used to challenges and does not give up easily. I would like to find help in the way of a scholarship for me to continue studying, which is the reason for this letter. To ask for the opportunity to demonstrate to you that when someone has the desire to obtain something, they can obtain it, but I need your help, I cannot do it alone.
In advance I thank God for touching your heart to help me achieve my dream. I assure you that I will study a lot to achieve my objective primarily with the help of God and then yours.
Thank you for your understanding
Sincerely,
Jessie Stephanie Galeas Thompson
