Doctor's Needed For
April 1 through April 11 2009 Mission
Dear Colleague,
I will be traveling to Honduras on another
medical mission during the
first third of April this year. The plan is to fly to San Pedro Sula,
Honduras, drive to La Ceiba and fly from there, via charter aircraft, to
Palacios in the area known as the Moskitia, an area inhabited by various
ethnic groups including Garifuna, Latinos, and indigenous Indians. We
will be along the north coast or Honduras, essentially beyond any roads,
where normal access is by boat only.
We plan to meet several family practice residents trained in Havana who
are currently serving at a small hospital in Ciriboya, Honduras. We
plan to have several clinics treating the local population for
everything from hypertension to malaria to diabetes to ascaris, and
about everything in between. We will move to different locations almost
daily.
Our original group was to include at least one American doctor and one
American nurse as well as myself and support staff. As things have
unfolded, the American doc and nurse will not be going on this trip. As
a result, it appears that I will be the sole American health provider on
this trip. Personally, I feel confident that I will be able to
function, especially with the Honduran residents and their Cuban
attending. However, this would be a wonderful opportunity for an
American doc to join me in an exciting and worthwhile endeavor that may
well change your life, as it has changed mine.
This is medicine without the bells and whistles, where every patient
appreciates your efforts, in a part of the world most American will
never see.
You will pay your expenses. I estimate this trip will cost about $1600
including transportation. It will be tax deductible.
If you have interest in this adventure, or know a physician who might
be, please contact me. I would love the chance to discuss the trip, and
to convince you to join us.
Sincerely,
Bruce McFadden, PA-C
