Christ United Methodist Mission Team
to Limon/Ciriboya - Aug 6 – 15, 2009
Mission: 6 aspects
Limon Nurture Center Project:
(Ministerio Unidad Familiar) 60 at-risk kids whose mother and/or
father has died of AIDS. This program serves to feed and offer
education as well as “life skills” to these kids
in Limon. The program is run by the local Cruzadas Church under
the direction of Pastor David Ventura and “soup kitchen
director” Christina. Team members will work one-on-one
with the kids as well as the cooks and project directors in Honduras.
This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the life
of at-risk children.
Carolina Clinic in Limon:
This is a long-standing basis of AHMEN’s work in Honduras,
supplying medical help to the people of Limon and the surrounding
area. This clinic serves as a model for permanent medical changes
provided by medical teams.
Garifina Library Project: Set up 7 new libraries,
re-evaluate 10 libraries set up last year, host a seminar for
librarians, distribute $10,000 worth of new books, and develop
partnership with librarians, teachers, and doctors in small Garifuna
villages on the Caribbean coast of Honduras.
Construction: Build libraries, soup kitchens,
and safe homes for at-risk girls.
AHMEN Eye Program: Train local personnel to
evaluate and fit glasses. When you leave there is a person who
not only serves the communities by improving their vision, but
also has a new way of making a living.
International Medical Seminar: This is the
third year for a unique program that offers a learning experience
to nursing students, American medical personnel, Honduran Family
Practice Residents, and Cuban medical personnel. What a wonderful
opportunity to experience an international medical seminar in
a remote, one-of-a-kind hospital. As the director of the Ciriboya
Clinic, Dr. Luther Castillo says: “Caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar” (“Walkers, there is no road,
we make the road as we walk”).
Mission Dates: Aug 6 – 15,
