Plan de Flores, the first major project AHMEN ever supported, is “alive and well” and expanding.

They started with an idea from the local pastor and his wife, Alfredito and Marianna. They wanted to help their young parishioners be able to make a living when they became adults. The first project was a woodworking, furniture making and carving school. It continues to train boys and girls in these arts. The students come from as far away as La Ceiba, live at dorms built on site, attend both regular school as well as the technical school.

Two years ago the Limon Sewing School was opened – fist without electricity and now with it. Again, the mostly women learn a trade while attending high school. They have living quarters on campus.

This year, they will add a school for the deaf. Yep, you guessed it. These folks will attend grammar school, high school, and one of the technical schools while learning sign language.

This is a lot of schooling in one little village on the side of a dirt road. But, Alfredo and Marianna have the whole hearted support of Cruzado as well at the local community and local government.
