5th International Medical Seminar
5th International Medical Seminar - Ciriboya, Honduras.
For the 5th year in a row, there are plans for an international medical seminar in the Garifina Village of of Ciriboya, Honduras.
Hosting the event will be Dr. Luther Castillo and the Ciriboya Clinic. Co-hosting will be CHIMES and AHMEN.
We are expecting medical personnel from Honduras, Cuba, USA, Italy, and Germany. There will be midwives, nurses, doctors, nurse practitionars, physicians assistants, and medical students participating in the 3 day event.
Ciriboya is located along the Honduran coast and is home to the first ever clinic/hospital dedicated to the health care of the Garifina people of the Caribbean coast of Honduras.
Although there is no “central electricity” in Ciriboya, each medical personnel will present power points that are of interest to and pertinent to the local area.
This International seminar started with 12 people in Limon, Honduras 5 years ago. At that time, the doctors were Hondurans trained in Cuba and the American team of doctors from AHMEN.
This year we are excepting medical students from Honduras and Cuba. Doctors or medical personnel from Honduras, USA, Italy, and Germany. The nurses and midwives have always been a big part of the program since they play a big role in medical care in rural Honduras.
The formal seminar is planned for August 8 - 10, 2011. There will be case presentations, joint clinics to experience how other countries and cultures treat patines, education for youth in the local schools, and sharing of ideas and medical values.
Following the for
mal seminar, there are opportunities to work in the Garifin area in local villages as well as medical clinics in the Indian population in the jungles of Mosquito.
