Jerry Batiz – PUNTA PIEDRA

Here is a young man who has challenged the limitations of poverty. He is 25 years old and after ending High School he attended the training for health promoters provided by MAMUGA (Garifuna Municipality Network). When he knew about the SIFAT/AHMEN initiative for the Garifuna communities got involved in the three years program formation for community agents, which differs from the MAMUGA (Ministry of Health) formation because ours is more holistic and beyond the biomedical formation. Jerry has been part of a National private program on HIV prevention and his skills will be now very useful for the HIV subject that the training has started. He has proposed as part of his training with us to organize the youths at Punta Piedra community. Jerry has already challenge to the Community Board President to support this initiative together with the local Baptist Church, the Community Board, and ECOSALUD, a local NGO working on HIV/AIDS prevention.
