Community development in Honduras
The AMEN/SIFAT Initiative began nearly 2 years ago when Byron Morales, a community developer/trainer who works with Servants In Faith And Technology in Lineville, Alabama visited one of the AHMEN teams that was working at the CHHF Clinic in Limon.
Byron also spent some time with Cruzadas pastors at a Pastor's Conference in Limon sponsored by Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and lead by Pastor John Gates. It was immediately apparent that AHMEN and SIFAT had many goals in common and that some form of collective ministry might be possible.
Over the past year AHMEN and SIFAT have conducted a pilot program in Cusuna with over fifty selected potential "grass roots" leaders from all over the northern region. When the program is completed, each of these leaders will have attended four 2 day workshops each year for three years.
At the end of their training, the Community Agents will return to their homes and villages to share their knowledge and newly acquired skills. In addition, each Agent will have a specific focus in health care and municipal services.
The aim is to achieve sustainable development, and this program has the potential of being a significant vehicle for social change. 2012 Byron has begin the second year for the Cusuna Agents and will expand the program this spring with new training centers in Yorito and in Belaire.
With this expansion the total number of Agents will increase to over 150 and will require the addition of an assistant trainer. Funding for the initiative is critical. If you would like to support this important program, please send an email to AHMEN at ahmen.info@gmail.com and express your interest.
