AHMEN's Library Project needs BOOKS

Five years ago AHMEN joined partners with Jasper Rotary Club, Rotary International, Give-A-Book, and CHIMES to open libraries in small Garifina villages on the Caribbean coast of Honduras.

To date the program has 15 Garifina libraries, and two bilingual libraries - one near La Ceiba and one on the island of Utila. This year, 2012, we have been approached to expand our program to include a bilingual preschool near Belaiere, expand the bilingual school in Utila, add another Garifina village near Pueblo Nuevo, and a TRILINGUAL school near Tela.

Take a look at the pictures below and the write up by Ruben Reyes re. the trilingual Kinder school in Triunfo de la Cruz. So, what do we need now? BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS. We need both English and Spanish.

If you happen to have a book in Garifina, send it along also. We need books appropriate for preschool thru 9 years old. Remember, Spanish or English is fine. Just box them up, write the approximate age for the kids, and contact one of the people listed below.

Hi Tom, I will like to know if you may have some text books for Kinder, I am attaching some photos of the trilingual project in Triunfo de la Cruz, Honduras. This project started in 2005, has graduated several children into first grade. In this project they learn to write and read in the Garifuna language as well as English and Spanish. Thank you.
