Surgeon Headed to Honduras with Carolina Team
Derinda Connor is a team leader for the Carolina Honduras Health Foundation. She will have a team in La Ceiba and then Limon during the period July 20 – July 30, 2011. She will have a Trauma Surgeon within her medical group who should be available for surgery referrals on Thursday, July 21 at the La Ceiba Dump and on Friday, July 22 at Pastor Mario Marilda's church in La Ceiba. The types of surgeries that are most appropriate for this situation include lumps, masses, cysts, hernias, or anything that could be done under local, digital or regional anesthesia. If your team's medical staff sees patients that require surgery that can wait until July, you might want to contact Derinda and see if you can get your patient on the schedule.
The surgeon requires a physician's note with a physical exam report, history and description of the surgical problem. Additionally you need to send pictures of the problem area if appropriate. The referral sheets need to have as much patient information and contact information as possible. You will be responsible for arranging any transportation and lodging that might be necessary.
