Soup Kitchen in Limon off to a good start
This was my first mission trip, and what a great trip it was! Before our mission, we organized several fund raising events to raise money to start a soup kitchen. I was so excited to be apart of such a great mission and kickoff of a much-needed soup kitchen for over eighty orphans. Now, I only wish that I had worked a little harder to raise more money to help feed these precious children. I was so amazed at how appreciative the people of the village were for us helping Christina organize such a huge task. Our team brought large bags of rice and beans for her to prepare for the children. We also gave them peanut butter and applesauce to mix for a dessert. I can assure you that there was not a plate that was not
cleaned by these hungry children. My father and I were thrilled to present Christina with a check for over $1,000 that we had raised to continue the soup kitchen. We estimated that it would cost $260 per month to feed the children two meals a week. The rest of the time the children will have to continue eating what is left over from the other people in the village. Our plan is to raise enough money to continue feeding these children during non-mission team visits. I can attest to the claims that it would be a life changing experience. My heart was broken when I witnessed Pastor David and Christina weeping as we prayed for the success of the soup kitchen. I did not have to understand their foreign words in order to understand their love and compassion. I could feel the Lord’s presence as the tears flowed from their eyes. We need your help in keeping these wonderful children fed.
