School Uniform Drive,
How You Can Help
by Linda Tripp
We are in the process of establishing a fund to provide school uniforms
and supplies for the children in Yorito. Children are not allowed
to attend school unless they have a uniform. We are working through
Pastor Gonzales and Joey, a Peace Corps volunteer in Yorito. This
effort can be accomplished locally rather than having to be done in
LaCeiba. Sandy has said this would be great if we can get it going.
Uniform costs are: shirts, $4.70; pants, $5.30; skirts $3.00, and
shoes $8.80. The director of the larger elementary school in Yorito
says the supplies are $35-45 for a school year. There are two elementary
schools, two kindergartens, and one high school in the town.
The school year starts in February. This year it is Feb. 14th, 2005. |

So, for about $60 a year, one can sponsor
a child for school. ($75 would provide two sets of uniforms. I don't
have to remind any of you of the importance of education.
May we count on you to sponsor? Pastor Gonzales has sent me a list
Of names; there are 77 elementary-aged children in Yorito who are
presently not in school. Please respond to me via email or phone.
Thank you; may God continue to bless you all.
